I started taking a daily magnesium supplement called Natural Calm in May 2015 to help with very high stress and insomnia issues. My husband had a rare chronic illness called Boerhaaves Syndrome happen to him in 2013 where his lower esophagus burst near where it connects to the stomach. It happened while he was throwing up from food poisoning, it can happen to anyone while vomiting! This event changed him and our lives forever and is what set me on the search for natural healing methods to improve the quality of our lives.
I was having panic attacks almost daily, I had a hard time controlling my anger, and I was exhausted all the time from not sleeping. I found out that most people who eat an American typical diet are magnesium deficient and my agitation and anxiety were symptoms of this. I was not eating well, the majority of my meals were packaged pre-made processed meals which are low in nutrition and magnesium, but they made meal time easier for me with so many responsibilities. I started taking the Natural Calm daily and it took about 3 weeks before I no longer had daily anxiety attacks and was more calm.

If I am feeling anxious or had a stressful day I will also have another dose when I get home from work or before bed.

What exactly is magnesium?
Magnesium is a mineral essential for 300 enzymatic reactions within the body including the metabolism of food, synthesis of fatty acids and proteins, and the transmission of nerve impulses. The best natural sources of magnesium are leafy greens like spinach. Many American diets are have very little magnesium rich foods and many Americans are magnesium deficient. Medications, gastrointestinal disorders, and alcohol can also contribute to magnesium deficiency.

Magnesium is used by the body in the relaxation of muscles and calcium is used for the contraction of muscles. If there is calcium but not enough magnesium there is high risk of kidney stones forming and cardiovascular disease. Osteoporosis can happen even if taking calcium if there is not enough intake of magnesium daily.
Caution, if you take too much magnesium it will act as a laxative causing diarrhea. Cut your dosage but don’t stop taking Natural Calm if this happens. It can take a few weeks of experimenting to figure out what works best for your body. You need to be patient to figure out the dosage and to see results. The results I experienced and continue to experience today from taking Natural Calm daily are life changing and totally worth it!
